Al-Mazar Al-Janubi is closely associated with the Battle of Mutah in 629 AD, one of the most significant early encounters between Muslim forces and the Byzantine-Ghassanid armies. The town contains the shrines of Zaid Bin Harithah, Ja’far Bin Abi Talib and Abdullah Bin Ruwahah.
